Ways to Participate

 

Boards and Committees at First Church are as follows:

Diaconate, Trustees, Christian Education, Fair, Flower, Hospitality, Hymnal, Memorial Garden, Missionary, Music, Nominating, Personnel, Prayer Chain, Social Concerns, Stewardship, Ushering.

Adult Education

From new member classes to Bible Studies to Lenten series on topics like forgiveness, opportunities for spiritual enrichment are growing at First Church. Please watch this space for the latest offerings:

  • Ongoing evening Bible Study—7:00 p.m. Wednesdays in the Connector

Musical opportunities for all ages:  Junior Choirs, Senior High Choir, and Senior Choir (adult).


A Bell Choir is practicing on Tuesday nights at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

 

The Friday Nighters is a social group for adults.

 

Crafters meet on the fourth Tuesday – morning through lunch.

 

The Shawl Ministry meets on the first Wednesday and the third Monday at 10:00 a.m. to knit shawls for needy, sick, and grieving people – with prayer and music.

 

First Church is a food distribution site for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries.   Volunteers gather on Tuesday afternoons to assist clients with their pick-up.  Heat & Eat supplies packaged frozen dinners.  Volunteers gather to cook and prepare the food and prepare the menu.  The Clothes Pantry periodically distributes used clothing.

 

Church School:  There is a Nursery for very small children, a Pre-K class, Exploring Faith for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, 'Tweens in Transition for 6th grade; Media and Meaning for 7th and 8th grades, Confirmation for 9th grade, and Food for Thought for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.  Infants, toddlers, and children in the Pre-K class should be brought to the Nursery or their classroom prior to the worship service.  All the other children are dismissed to their workshops during the service. 
 

Groups also meet during the week: Bible Explorers for 3rd graders on Mondays at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday’s Pals on every other Wednesday for 4th graders at 2:50 p.m., Mid-Week Peak on alternating Wednesdays for 5th and 6th graders (same time), Junior High and Senior High Youth Groups meet on alternate Sundays at 5:50 p.m.

 

We support the community by sponsoring Blood Drives, are involved in the annual CROP Walk (for hunger), and are Goodwin After-School Buddies at Goodwin Elementary School.


Neighbors in Need are volunteers to run errands, clean, do repairs, etc. for members and friends of First Church who are temporarily incapacitated due to illness or infirmity.  In-Reach can arrange for visits to homes or hospitals plus consultations and assistance to help on the road to recovery.

 

Book Group which meet on the 4th Monday at 2:30 p.m.  (Not religious.)
